“Sixteen-year-old Franky Carrillo became a suspect after police mistakenly identified him as the shooter in another incident. Scott Turner, an eyewitness who was shown Carrillo’s photograph on the night of Sarpy’s murder, later identified Carrillo as the shooter.
Turner then told Sarpy’s son, Dameon, and the four other friends who were present said that Carrillo was the gunman. Six months later, Dameon and the four friends identified Carrillo in a lineup. All six
witnesses testified at Carrillo’s first trial, which ended in a mistrial when the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
Although Turner recanted his testimony before Carrillo’s second trial, the other five eyewitnesses continued to identify Carrillo as the gunman. No other physical evidence linked Carrillo to the crime. In June 1992, the jury convicted him of murder and six counts of attempted murder.”

“Lieutenant Craig Ditsch was blamed for coercing one of the eyewitnesses to point out Carrillo from an album of possible suspects. Scott Turner, the key eye witness to the trial, recanted his earlier testimony saying that he was coerced by Ditsch to point out Carrillo as the suspect. Ditsch’s motives have been linked to many theories. The first link points to how Ditsch is a member of the Lynwood Vikings, a supposed white supremacist gang that rose to prominence in the early 1980s. Seen as a Neo-Nazi group, they are famously notorious for picking on Latin Americans and the members of the Black Community. The gang’s hidden power in the community aims to suppress any complaints against their mode of crime investigation that involves. Those who would complain against LASD would find themselves beaten or hurt in any mysterious ways. The gang’s involvement with the Carrillo case was made apparent as Ditsch was a known member of the police gang.”
